The original owners of Textco, Inc. announced today that they have recently acquired the Textco business back from SciQuest, Inc. The acquisition was done through a new company, Textco BioSoftware, Inc., based in New Hampshire. The new company is headed by the original founders and includes key personnel from the original Textco development and sales & support teams. Gene Construction Kit and Gene Inspector will continue to be sold under their current names due to strong brand awareness with customers.
Late last year, SciQuest decided to focus its efforts on its core products and services which include enterprise software solutions that are focused on increasing efficiencies in procurement and materials management. Since desktop molecular biology software solutions for individual researchers fell outside of their primary focus, it was decided to divest products such as Gene Construction Kit and Gene Inspector.
Textco (and now Textco BioSoftware) has been a leading supplier of high quality software applications for molecular biologists since 1984. Its software solutions are installed at leading commercial and academic research organizations worldwide including, a majority of the global pharmaceutical research organizations and top biotechnology companies, and many of the top research universities.
Dr. Robert H. Gross, Textco's original co-founder and President, will assume the role of President and CEO of the newly formed company, Textco BioSoftware, Inc. Dr. Gross will be responsible for driving product development. He has published more than 35 scientific research papers in the fields of snRNAs, RNA splicing, heat shock and thermotolerance, and computational biology. In 1998, Dr. Gross received a Career Achievement Award from the Biotechnology Software and Internet Journal for "outstanding achievements in design, programming, and advancements in scientific software".
Also assuming her previous role as Vice President of Sales and Marketing will be Co-founder, Roberta Brucks Gross. Ms. Gross had served as Director of Sales and Marketing for Textco since 1984, and will be helping to increase brand awareness and market penetration of the product offerings with the new company.
"For nearly 20 years we have provided the molecular biology research community with innovative products and dedicated service resulting in strong customer relationships," commented Dr. Robert Gross, President and CEO of Textco BioSoftware. "Our proven, award-winning products are successful because they are intuitive to biologists and are backed up by our strong relationship with our customers. I am excited to work with individuals that are committed to growing our product offerings for researchers throughout the life sciences industry. We have a number of new products in our development plan that we look forward to introducing through Textco BioSoftware."
The Henniker River Group, LLC, a business development firm, helped facilitate the transaction to acquire back the company and will act as consultants to Textco BioSoftware to support the on-going growth and development of the business.
Product Descriptions
The Gene Construction Kit(TM) (GCK), with its intuitive graphical interface, is a unique DNA manipulation, cloning design, and illustration tool. GCK provides molecular biologists with an intuitive way to design and track the complex process of gene cloning projects. By using GCK's desktop cloning approach to experimental design, researchers can increase productivity and reduce research materials costs. GCK, through its powerful, built-in GenBank searching capabilities and its sophisticated importing capability, enables molecular biologists to work with the latest DNA sequence information only available via the internet. GCK is available for both Macintosh and Windows platforms.
Gene Inspector(TM) (GI) combines a powerful sequence analysis package with a versatile electronic research notebook for molecular biologists. The innovative notebook design, featuring a comprehensive word processor with bookmarks and appendices, allows the import of images from other programs and provides its own drawing and table tools making it the ideal place to record daily laboratory notes and procedures. GI offers more than 60 built-in nucleic acid and protein analyses, a sophisticated multiple sequence editor, and an analysis panel interface that takes the guesswork out of defining analysis parameters. Researchers can define and save suites of analyses with standardized sets of parameters and confidently rely upon Gene Inspector's "Hotlinking" functionality to automatically update these analyses each time a sequence is changed. This means that everyone in a research group will be able to get relevant and consistent results. GI is now available for Macintosh, and will be available for Windows later this year.
