The files created by GCK2 or later on either Mac or Windows have identical file formats and can be opened on either platform - just transfer the file from one platform to another and open it from within GCK. In order to be able to double-click to open a GCK file on Windows, though, you need to add a three letter extension to the file name. You can do this manually, or you can download this Macintosh application to automatically add the appropriate extension to any Mac GCK files. The application allows you to drag a file or folder on to the application, which will convert everything by adding the correct extension.
You can also specify how text characters in Macintosh file names that are not allowed in Windows file names are converted to legal Windows characters.
If you start Gene Construction Kit 2 on Windows 95 and get an error message saying something like "Missing essential DLL-file - WS2_32.DLL", the problem is in your version of Windows 95. It turns out that some (earlier?) versions of Windows 95 were incomplete in their TCP/IP implementation. Microsoft released an update that fixes this problem. Please download this update and install it. It solves the WS2_32.DLL problem. If the file is not on that page, try getting it from here -- it is called a 'Windows Socket 2 Update' on that page.
